Less than a week after reporting that a 15-year-old was fatally shot in Belton, police announced Tuesday evening that a 19-year-old man was injured by gunfire a day prior.

In a January 7 media release, police reported that the shooting occurred near the 500 block of East 3rd Avenue around 4:20 AM Wednesday, January 1. The victim was shot twice in the roadway in front of a home, and neighbors reported hearing gunshots in the area.

The victim was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, where he remained in stable condition Tuesday, January 7.

Police say suspects have been identified, but they did not release further details. The case is currently being screened by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and formal charges are pending.

On Thursday, January 2, a 15-year-old was fatally shot near the 1600 block of South Wall Street around 8 PM. According to police, the victim collapsed after entering a home at which he'd been staying. It was discovered that he'd been shot in the back, and neighbors reported having heard two gunshots in the area.

Police have not said if the shootings are connected.
