A new scam is making it's way around the Harker Heights community leading to the Harker Heights Police Department issuing a warning for the residents to be aware.

Harker Heights Scam Warning

The world can be pretty sneaky and someone is always looking to pull one over on someone at anytime. Our news partners at KWTX are reporting that the Harker Heights Police Department are warning the community of a new scam involving the impersonating of law enforcement through emails.

The Scam

According to the report, a Harker Heights resident got an email from the Traffic Enforcement saying that a traffic camera caught them speeding at twice the legal speed limit. They were issued a citation and a fine amount with a link requesting money to cover the fine.

The email also said that points would be added and a late penalty fee of 10% would be added for each day if the fine wasn't paid by a certain date.

Harker Heights Police

Harker Heights PD issued a warning saying this is a scam, “Please be advised that current statues in Texas prohibit citations from video monitored speed enforcement devices."

The Harker Heights Police Department is asking anyone in the community who has received one of these bogus emails to contact them at 254-953-5440.

Good rule of thumb is to always be suspicious of potential scam emails. If it seems kind of fishy, it probably is.
