Central Texas continues to be a prime location for growth, and Baylor Scott & White has decided to further expand their health system to keep up.

According to a recent press release, Baylor Scott & White has partnered with Baylor College of Medicine to build and open a new medical school campus in Temple as early as 2023.

"This is a great opportunity to expand Baylor College of Medicine's outstanding medical education programs to a regional medical school campus," said Dr. Paul Klotman, president, CEO and executive dean of Baylor College of Medicine. "We are looking forward to being in Temple."

The fall semester of 2023 will only admit 40 students. Each year the campus plans to allow 40 more students to enroll, bringing 160 students over 4 years.

The Temple Health and Bioscience District is partnering on this project as well, which the Temple Economic Development Corporation will use an opportunity to attract more students and healthcare professionals to our area.

Central Texas boasts large and prominent health care facilities, and about a quarter of jobs in the Temple area are in healthcare. Temple is also home to the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the largest VA medical consortium in Texas and fourth largest in the United States.

Thank goodness construction going South on I-35 is complete, because it seems like there will be a boost in commuting between Waco and Temple soon.
