Pre-School Prep Made Easy: Killeen's Braid-a-thon Is Back!

The countdown begins as the Killeen Independent School District prepares for the 2025–2026 school year. After parents search high and low for school supplies and take full advantage of the tax-free holiday, they make sure their children are dressed to impress for the first day of school—with fresh hairdos and great attitudes. That’s where Sharon Bryant, owner and operator of Salon Monai (M Salon), comes in. Each year, Sharon and her team, along with dedicated community volunteers, organize a system of free haircuts and hair braiding to ensure kids go back to school in style. What I love about Sharon Bryant is that this boss lady is truly here for the community.
This year’s event will take place at the Killeen Mall on August 17 at 9:00 AM. Keep in mind, hundreds of children will receive haircuts and styles at this event—and yet, there are never any complaints. Just happy faces and pure gratitude.

We need more Sharon Bryants in our lives. But that’s not all. In addition to offering back-to-school hairstyles for children, Sharon has invited childcare vendors to set up booths at the event. Families in need of childcare services can sign up right there on the spot. Seriously, Central Texas—how could you not love this woman? And if you thought that was it, think again: massage services will also be available for parents while they wait for their children to get their hair done.
