The Texas Department of State Health Services announced Tuesday morning that beginning Monday, March 29, COVID-19 vaccination eligibility will be expanded to include all adults in the Lone Star State.

We reached out to DSHS Press Officer Lara M. Anton, who confirmed that "adult" includes all Texans 16+.

"Please note that only the Pfizer vaccine’s EUA allows it to be administered to people between 16 and 18," Anton added.

DSHS expects the vaccine supply to increase and say there's been enough progress in vaccinating priority groups to accommodate more people interested in receiving a vaccine. Vaccine providers will still be directed to prioritize people age 80+.

Also happening next week, the DSHS will launch a website to allow Texans to register for a vaccine appointment through some public health providers. They say the online scheduling option will work best for most people, but they also want to set up a toll-free number for people who'd like to schedule an appointment over the phone.

So far, DSHS reports that over 9.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Texas, with over 6 million people receiving at least one dose and over 3 million being fully vaccinated.

Personally, I am still waiting to see if this vaccine has any lasting effects before I take the shots, but I encourage anyone who wants to get vaccinated to do so!
