Since the advent of online shopping, retail giants are starting to dwindle as they continue to fight to find ways to drive customers into their stores.

According to USA Today, discount shoe retailer Payless Shoesource announced plans to file for bankruptcy and may close as many as 500 stores across the country. This is following a trend that includes recent announced closings of other major retailers like K-Mart.

The Central Texas area has 7 Payless locations including one in Copperas Cove, 2 in Killeen, one in Harker Heights and 3 in Temple. There's no word as of yet on whether or not any of these locations will be affected.
