Tyson Foods, a name synonymous with store-bought chicken products in the USA has issued a recall of over 132,000 pounds of chicken nuggets according to a the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announcement today.

According to the Feds, the fully cooked Panko Chicken Nuggets items were produced on July 18, 2016. The reason given for the voluntary recall is "foreign object contamination." What that means we don't know but it could mean a Junior Mint got into the chicken plucking machine. What we do know is that no one has been hurt.

The following products are subject to recall:

  • 5-lb. bag containing “Tyson FULLY COOKED PANKO CHICKEN NUGGETS” with a “Best If Used By” date of July 18, 2017 and case code 2006SDL03 and 2006SDL33.
  • 20-lb. bulk packages containing “SPARE TIME Fully Cooked, Panko Chicken Nuggets, Nugget Shaped Chicken Breast Pattie Fritters With Rib Meat” with a production date of July 18, 2016 and case code 2006SDL03.

The Feds says products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 13556” printed adjacent to the “Best If Used By” date on the back of the package. While the 20-pound cases were marked for institutional use in Pennsylvania alone, the five-pound bags were shipped to retail locations across the United States. They could be lurking in your freezer right now.

FSIS says you should do one of two things: toss the chicken or return it from the store where you purchased it and attempt to get your money back.

Tyson has set up a customer hotline for questions at (866) 328-3156.
