Thousands of School Choice Supporters to Rally in Austin Friday

With National School Choice Week beginning yesterday, January 24, over 16,000 events planned to to raise awareness about K-12 school choices have been set, including 1,204 in the Lone Star State. The independent public awareness effort spotlights the effectiveness of parents having options to choose the right schools for their children, which include traditional public schools, public charter schools, online schooling, private schools, magnet schools and homeschooling. Locally, the week will culminate on Friday, January 29 in Austin, Texas at the South Capitol Steps where 2,000 supporters celebrate this opportunity in education. The event, which will take place at 11 a.m. will feature student performances and school choice success stories from students, parents, educators and community leaders.

"The Texas Institute for Education Reform (TIER) is proud to stand with Texas families and educators for high-quality educational options," said Courtney Boswell, exec. director of TIER. "There is a growing appetite in Texas for more parental control over where and how children are educated, and National School Choice Week gives us a fantastic opportunity to amplify that message."

The event in Austin is being planned by a coalition of Texas organizations, including Families Empowered, Texas Institute for Education Reform, ResponsiveEd, Americans for Prosperity - Texas, The LIBRE Initiative, The Texas Catholic Conference, Texas Charter Schools Association, Texas Private Schools Association, Connections Academy, Texas Business Leadership Council, Reason Foundation, Texas Public Policy Foundation, and Liberty Action Texas.
