On this day February 25th in 1986, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie received their Grammys for "Song Of The Year" for their all-star collaboration "We Are The World".

Here are some interesting facts about this 80's iconic classic that you probably didn't know:

  • The song was originally going to be written by Richie, Jackson and Stevie Wonder, but due to Stevie's tough schedule, Richie and Jackson wrote the song themselves.
  • The song was recorded over 6 days in L.A. with a majority of the big name stars including Diana Ross, Ray Charles, Bruce Springsteen and Smokey Robinson coming in straight from the American Music Awards to record their parts.
  • As everyone entered the studio, they were greeted by Stevie Wonder who said "If this isn't done in one take, me and Ray Charles (two blind men) are going to drive everyone home."

The song went on to sell 20 million copies worldwide, 3 Grammy Awards including "Song Of The Year" and raised over $63 Million in humanitarian aid for Africa and The U.S.
