The BET Awards Considering Moving To Austin Or Houston

This will be HUGE if it happens!

According to Austin360, and Fortune Magazine, the BET Awards are considering relocating from Los Angeles due to their contract being up and new management at the network considering changing things up and 2 Texas cities are said to be on the short list for relocation: Austin and Houston.

The awards show which wrapped up its 16th year celebrating the best in African American entertainment and sports has morphed into a 4 day weekend which includes the BET Experience and countless parties and events. Its been in Los Angeles since 2013. But with a new management coming into BET, they are considering other moves.

“They don’t want to renew,” the individual said about BET. “Now that Debra Lee is no longer at BET, things may change.” The individual, whose account was confirmed by a second person familiar with the matter, added that BET is taking a serious look at Atlanta, with Houston and Austin also under consideration as possible locations. - Fortune Magazine

While in this observers opinion, Atlanta will probably end up hosting the show due to its "Black Hollywood" moniker, Austin wouldn't be bad either due to its experience with SXSW and other huge events but it doesn't necessarily have a "urban" scene like Atlanta or Houston.
