Street vendors in Temple claim that they are being targeted by people using fake cash to buy their products.

Kermit Telkin, who sells melons at the intersection of FM 2305 and Highway 317, was paid with a $100 bill, which turned out to be paper when he brought it to the bank.

Vendors looking for counterfeit bills can use the following tips:

  • Compare bills with others to detect differences
  • Look for the tiny red and blue fibers which are present in all U.S. bills
  • Check if the serial numbers are evenly spaced
  • Look for micro printing and watermarks
