One year after the fatal shooting of five Dallas Police Department officers, police across the state gathered to show solidarity and honor those lives lost serving and protecting.

At 10 AM Friday, police throughout Texas flashed their blue and red lights. In Temple, officers and firefighters lined the newly-constructed West Nugent Bridge spanning Interstate 35 to participate.

Governor Greg Abbott called for the statewide "Stand with Law Enforcement" event in a statement Thursday.

"It is our officers who stand between us and all that threatens, and we must stand behind them by sending a clear message that attacks on our men and women in blue will not be tolerated," the statement read. "I ask that all Texans come together to show our appreciation for those who keep us safe."

Abbott will speak at the funeral of slain San Antonio police officer Miguel Moreno Saturday morning. Officer Moreno was fatally shot last week while responding to a call of suspicious activity.
