A Temple Police Department employee will not face charges in connection to a child abuse investigation, the department announced Tuesday.

The employee, whose name and position have not bee released, was placed on paid leave on May 6 pending both a criminal and internal investigation of a child abuse allegation.

The investigation was triggered by a complaint received while a child was being treated for injuries consistent with abuse at McLane's Children's Hospital in Temple on May 5. On May 9, the department contacted the Texas Rangers to assist in the investigation and to "ensure an independent and transparent process".

Temple PD Public Information Officer Shawana Neely said Tuesday that the criminal investigation has concluded with no charges pending against the employee, but they will remain on administrative leave until the conclusion of the internal investigation.
