Teen Returns Money Stolen by His Father [VIDEO]

The son of an Oklahoma man who mugged an elderly woman in a cemetery is making national news after tracking down the victim and trying to return the money.

Two weeks after her husband of 60 years passed away, 78-year-old Tona Herndon of Bethany, Oklahoma was visiting his grave when a stranger approached her and took off with her purse and $700. The suspect, 39-year-old Shane Lynn Lunsford, was later arrested and his mug shot broadcast on the local news.

Lunford’s son, 15-year-old Christian Lunsford, saw his father’s photo on TV and immediately became suspicious. His father, who had been absent for much of his life, had recently paid him an unexpected visit and given him $250 for a band trip.

"When I found out this whole situation, I didn't know if it was hers or his or how, I just knew I needed to give the money to her," Christian told an Oklahoma news station.

Christian’s stepfather helped him reach out to the news station that aired the story about his father in hopes of getting in touch with Herndon. He wanted to apologize and return the money his father had given him.

Christian and Herndon met in the parking lot of a church.

"He gave me $250 for my band trip," Christian told Herndon. "I'm not sure if it was yours or however he got it, but I'd feel bad if I didn't give it to you."

Herndon accepted the cash, and then promptly handed it back to Christian.

“I want you to take your band trip,” she said.

In the end, Herndon seemed to have her faith in humanity restored and Christian reminded us of something very important.

"You're not who your parents are," he told CBS's Steve Hartman. "Even if they do raise you, you can become whatever you want to be."
