Police in Temple are investigating after two men shot at the front door of a home in what appears to be an attempted burglary.

Officers received a call shortly after midnight Tuesday from the owner of a home in the 1100 block of Roanoke Drive. According to the homeowner, a person rang his doorbell several times late Monday night, then began banging on it when no one answered. When the he looked outside, he saw two dark figures standing outside the door but couldn't see them clearly due to poor lighting.

The man retreated to another room, then went back to the front to look outside. He saw two young, thin men standing on the lawn. He then heard a loud noise, after which the front door suddenly opened.

The man shouted that he had called police and officers were on their way. The two suspects then fled across the street and got into a dark colored pickup truck – possibly a Ford F-150 – with lout exhaust pipes.

Responding officers recovered a shall casing from a hand gun and observed a small bullet hole in the front door of the house. No injuries were reported.
