A Temple police officer making what he thought was a routine traffic stop ended up finding a passenger suffering from stab wounds Sunday.

The officer stopped the vehicle for speeding near S. 1st St. and Avenue M. When he approached the car, he found a man in the passenger seat who'd been stabbed several times in the upper body. That man was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The victim told police he was stabbed at the Do Drop Inn at 701 E. Downs Ave. An early investigation indicated that the victim and another man got into an argument outside of the inn. When the argument became heated, the suspect produced a sharp object and attacked the victim.

Police have not released the identify of the suspect, and the crime was still under investigation Monday.
