Looking for a free, fun activity for the kids? Sign them up for the Temple Fire Department's 17th annual Junior Fire Cadet Program.

Kids aged 9-13 will get to train like real firefighters, learning how to handle ladders and fire hoses, search and rescue techniques, and even first aid and CPR procedures. The program also teaches the importance of team work, setting goals, ethical conduct, and respect for both oneself and neighbors.

The sign-up deadline is June 3, so interested kids and parents need to act fast. Applications are available at www.templetx.gov/fire and the Temple Fire & Rescue Central Station at 210 N. 3rd St. The program is a three week and one day program held five days a week.
