The Dallas Morning News has named “Those Who Answered The Call At West” as their 2013 Texans of the Year.

In an article published Sunday, the newspaper honored firefighters, paramedics and civilian volunteers who put themselves in harm’s way following the April 17 blast that destroyed West Fertilizer Co. 15 people were killed; 10 of them, emergency responders.

The Dallas Morning News’ Editorial Board’s piece honors not only those who were killed in the blast, but also emergency responders who answered a call for backup and officials and civilians who aided in evacuation, sheltering and caring for the citizens of West.
