Mel Waiters, known for southern soul hits like "Hole In The Wall" and "Got My Whiskey" passed away earlier today from cancer according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He was 58.

Waiters was born and raised in San Antonio and worked as a radio DJ and would later work as an entertainer on military bases throughout the southwest. He would release his debut album "I'm Serious" in 1995 featuring the hit "Hit and Quit It".

Waiters released 9 albums in his career but it would be on his fourth album "Material Things" where Mel would score his most well-known and beloved hit "Hole In The Wall" which is now a southern standard in jook joints and bars all across the region.
