Huge changes to the flow of traffic along I35 are coming to Temple this weekend.

At Noon Saturday, July 23, the new Spur 290 Bridge over I-35 on the north end of Temple will open to traffic.

Signs will be posted to direct travelers from the northbound and southbound frontage roads to the new bridge.

The off-ramps to access the Mayborn Center and the area around it will not change.

At the same time, the existing Industrial Blvd. bridge will close permanently. It is scheduled to be demolished next weekend.

Industrial Blvd. at the railroad crossing just west of I-35 will reopen as the new bridge opens. Signs will be in place to direct travelers needing to cross I-35 to the new Spur 290 Bridge.

On Monday morning, July 25, the 57th Street crossing under I-35 will close, and is expected to remain closed for at least two years.

Drivers needing to cross under I35 from the east (northbound side) will detour north to Avenue H to turn.

Those needing to cross I-35 from the west (southbound side), will detour south to Loop 363 to make the turnaround.

TxDOT spokesman Jodi Wheatley says the closure is necessary moving into the next phase of I35 expansion in the area.
