This isn't a story from 1982, this is in 2015. More than 30 years after its release that year, Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album just became the first album to surpass 30 million copies sold in the U.S. according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"RIAA has awarded Gold & Platinum records on behalf of the music business for nearly 60 years, but this is the first time an artist has crossed the 30X multi-Platinum plateau,"  -RIAA chairman and CEO Cary Sherman via The Hollywood Reporter

"Thriller" was already the biggest selling record of all time with over 100 million sales worldwide. Considering that it has continued to sell after all this time is truly a testament to Jackson's "King of Pop" status.
