UPDATE Tuesday, Nov 10, 4:45 PM: Derrick Wayne Gamble passed away at Scott & White Hospital in Temple at 3:20 PM today.

UPDATE Monday, Nov. 2, 9:00 AM: Derrick Wayne Gamble has been arrested and will be charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.

Marlin Police Chief Darrell Allan was in critical but stable condition Sunday morning after being shot in the head in Temple.

Allan was working uniformed security at the Laid Back Lounge II at 301 East Ave B when he attempted to detain a man causing a disturbance. Temple Police were called to the scene shorty before 1:30 AM after Allan was shot during the altercation. Allan was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, where he was set to undergo surgery. However, his treatment plan was changed and he did not go into surgery. He is said to be in critical but stable condition and is being closely monitored by hospital staff.

24-year-old Derrick Wayne Gamble of Temple was arrested after an investigation by Temple Police and Texas Rangers that included interviews with club patrons. Gamble is in the Bell County Jail awaiting arraignment on a charge of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer.
