Manslaughter Trial Enters Second Day

The trial of former Killeen resident Eugene Kelley Wolfenberger, accused of killing a motorcyclist while driving drunk three years ago, began yesterday.

Wolfenberger, a 50-year-old retired soldier, was westbound on Westcliff Road and allegedly collided with the rear end of the motorcycle driven by 47-year-old William Allen Reed.

If convicted, Wolfenberger could face up to 20 years in prison.

On Tuesday, Officer William Pereya testified regarding the details leading up to Wolfenberger's arrest.

Pereya arrived at the scene of the accident and followed a trail of fluid left by Wolfenberger's car. He proceeded to a home on Purser Drive following a 911 call from Wolfenberger's wife.

Wolfenberger's damaged car was parked near the home. Pereya claims he say Wolfenberger stand and put his hands over his head, saying that he was "the one you're looking for" and that he "did the bad deed."

Video footage of a conversation between Pereya and Wolfenberger was also shown.

Defense attorney Mike White argued that officers spent over an hour searching for Wolfenberger, leaving room for the possibility that he was drinking at home, and not impaired at the time of the collision.

Other witnesses included Killeen officers who investigated the incident, a representative from the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office who stated that Reed died of serious trauma to his head, spine, and internal organs, and a Texas Department of Safety crime-lab technician who claimed that DNA taken from Wolfenberger's windshield matched that of Reed.
