‘Love & Hip Hop’ Season 5, Episode 1 Recap: Mendeecees Is Released From Jail, Peter Gunz Welcomes Another Baby
If you thought you were going to get a break from Mona Scott-Young and her Monami Ent. empire just because the holidays are right around the corner, think again. A short seven days after ratchet TV lovers said goodbye to 'Love & Hip Hop Hollywood' in sunny California, the fifth season of 'Love & Hip Hop' in New York arrives.
Although it seems like the VH1 franchise never ends, last night marked a new beginning for the fifth season of the bona fide brand with proof that
love scandal, relationships lies and talent the money-hungry really do exist in the land of music and fairytales. And it all starts with Yandy Smith and Mendeecees Harris.
After a year behind bars, Yandy and her man find a way to fight the system and get a judge to agree to bail after he was accused of federal drug conspiracy. If convicted, the 34-year-old could face up to 20 years in prison. In the meantime, he found "justice" and his way home to wifey and the kids.
Looking to surprise his son, Little Mendeecees, Papa Harris and his ride-or-die divulge a little plan that brings Mendeecees' mini me to tears. Shocked to see his father outside of a cage, the tyke can't bring himself to let go of daddy. Who knew family values could really exist on a scripted reality show?
To bring things full circle, the man of the hour whisks Yandy away on a surprise getaway to Las Vegas to thank her for never leaving his side. But that's not the kicker. With 365 days of nothing but time and thoughts, Mr. Harris finally pops the question to his longtime girlfriend and mother to his children. Of course, everything can't be revealed in the first episode, but after quickly saying yes -- in her own way -- it doesn't look like Yandy is quite ready to jump the broom.
So while she's figuring out her next move, Peter Gunz is trying to decide if he made the right decision in becoming team captain for his wife, Amina Buddafly. If Peter and the general public learned nothing else from the fourth season of 'Love & Hip Hop,' it's that you don't bring your main chick and your side chick together for a check. Not even when VH1 is throwing in extra zeros.
The 'Uptown' rapper made that mistake, and now he's caught between two women: his wife and his live-in girlfriend of 13 years. Where they do that at? If anyone remembers clearly, Amina declared she no longer wanted Peter during part two of the season four show reunion, but things quickly changed when she magically popped up pregnant. As the cameras are rolling while the two visit New York's famed Bellevue Hospital to find out the sex of their child, the current Mrs. Gunz asks her man if he's ready to be a father -- again.
The man already has eight children, but he still runs the streets like he's a freshman at Hillman College 2.0. Promising he's ready to make some changes, the Bronx-bred rapper asks Amina if she's willing to sit down with his ex, Tara, and live like 'Modern Family.' Viewers around the world should know exactly how that's going to end. But hey, pretending not to know makes for good television. That's why people keep tuning in every week, right?
To give the run down on the rest of the cast, Erica Mena and Cyn Santana seem to be going strong -- unless Erica's shoving her tongue down some man's mouth. For the sake of this episode, we're referring to Bow Wow aka Shad Moss. And to bring some new blood to the cast, Chrissy Monroe, pimpstress to the baddest women in New York; and Diamond Strawberry, aspiring model and daughter of MLB outfielder Darryl Strawberry. Both of their situations are messy, so you know their story lines are perfect for the show.
Ready for the dirt? Be sure to tune in next week.
