On Monday, Lampasas school board members voted to approve a school resource officer to maintain security on the district's five campuses.

The district has an existing contract with the Lampasas Police Department in which the district pays an officer's salary for the nine months when school is in session, while the police department covers the other three. The district is looking to add another officer with a similar contract.

The district currently has one resource officer assigned to the high school. The new officer will likely be assigned to the middle school, with the two officers alternating to cover the three elementary campuses as needed.
