Killer Mike Talks Hip-Hop, Calls Out Bill O’Reilly on ‘Real Time With Bill Maher’ [VIDEO]

We all know that Killer Mike is very passionate about discussing topical issues related to the black community. His emotional speech after the Ferguson Grand Jury decision is an example of that. On Friday night (May 15), Mike appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher and schooled the panel on hip-hop history.

When Maher asked Mike what are his thoughts on people linking crime and violence with rap music, he responded, “You’re stupid.”

The Atlanta rhymer went on to discuss the actual origins of hip-hop as a culture and why it is such an important movement for the youth.

"Hip-Hop, as a entity, was started in the late '60s, early '70s," he explained. "All these kids that were kind of the fallout kids of the Black Nationalist movement, Civil Rights, poor white people's movement, Puerto Rican Nationalism movement - they had street gangs in New York, in the Bronx, that were just essentially burned out. At some point in the very late '60s, early '70s, these kids were like 'We're going to come up with our own peace treaty.' They came up with their own peace treaty, decided that, 'We aren't going to engage in violence.'"

"Well, what's the alternative to violence? The Zulu Nation was born out of that," he continues. "These kids, they were children, got together in the public park, stole public electricity, which I strongly support, and decided to do park jams as an alternative to violence."

"Hip-hop is not rap. Hip-hop is the thing that houses rap, graffiti, break-dancing, DJ-ing and entrepreneurship," he finished.

Mike then added, "At our core, hip-hop, every time you see a successful rapper, you're seeing a job creator in the community. Jay Z has provided hundreds of jobs and created dozens of millionaires and it's changed the economy in places it wouldn't have. OutKast in Atlanta, personally changed the economy in the last twenty years."

Prior to Mike's history lesson on hip-hop, the Run the Jewels rhymer was asked about Bill O' Reilly to which he replied,"He's more full of s--- than an outhouse. I'm gonna go in a black club and see Bill O'Reilly with a stripper on his lap, I guarantee you that. He's as fictional as those books he writes."
