26-year-old Cassandra Marzella Ekis of Killeen was being held in the Bell County Jail Friday after being arrested Tuesday in Waco. She's been charged with failure to stop and render aid in an accident causing death (a second degree felony) after reportedly fleeing the scene of a traffic collision that led to the death of a motorcyclist in March.

KPD's Ofelia Miramontez wrote in a news release that Ekis was driving west on Rancier shortly after 11 PM on March 22 when she failed to yield right of way to 48-year-old Derrick Roy Evans of Killeen, who was traveling east on Rancier on a motorcycle and attempting to turn left onto Alexander Street.

Ekis' vehicle struck Evans' motorcycle, after which she reportedly fled the scene on foot before police arrived. Evans was transported to Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights, then transferred to Baylor Scott & White where he latter passed away as a result of his wounds.

Ekis was arrested Tuesday, April 11 in Waco. She was booked into the Bell County Jail Wednesday. Online records indicate she was still being held Friday in lieu of $50,000 bond.
