The Central Texas Area Veterans Advisory Committee has announced the theme of this year's Veterans Day Parade in Killeen.

The AVAC issued the following press release Thursday:

The Central Texas Area Veterans Advisory Committee (AVAC), in partnership with local veterans organizations and the City of Killeen, will celebrate Veterans Day with a community parade.

For the fifth straight year, the City of Killeen is designated a Regional Site for Veterans Day by the Department of Veteran Affairs Veterans Day Committee. A presentation ceremony will begin the festivities at 10:30 across from City Hall. The ceremony will include the presentation of a proclamation designating Killeen as a Regional Site by CSM(R) Elijah King, Jr. to Killeen Mayor Scott Cosper.

Our theme for this year’s Veterans Day Parade is "“Duty, Honor, Country, - Soldier-For-Life - Honoring Our Vietnam War Veterans, Families, and Supporters."

Grand marshals for the parade are our Vietnam War Veterans. As partners in the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War, we will recognize, thank, and honor Veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held as prisoners of war (POW), or listed as missing in action (MIA), for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States and to thank and honor the families of these veterans.

Objectives of the 50th Commemorative program are:

· To highlight the service of the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and the contributions of Federal agencies and governmental and non- governmental organizations that served with, or in support of, the Armed Forces.
· To pay tribute to the contributions made on the home front by the people of the United States during the Vietnam War.
· To highlight the advances in technology, science, and medicine related to military research conducted during the Vietnam War.
· To recognize the contributions and sacrifices made by the allies of the United States during the Vietnam War.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. Nov. 11, 2015 at City Hall in downtown Killeen. The parade line-up will be along Avenue E. All participants must assemble for the parade no later than 10:30 a.m. Line-up will be as you enter the assembly area from North Fort Hood Street/ State Highway 195.
