An 80-year-old army veteran from Killeen has been evicted from his home of 15 years after falling victim to identity theft.

According to a report from KXXV-TV, the man was removed from his home Wednesday after failing to pay rent because of the theft of his retirement checks. Identity thieves have apparently changed the man's address several times, causing his checks to be sent to incorrect addresses in Texas, California and New York.

According to the report, Defense Finance and Accounting Services representatives reached out to the owner of the home to take responsibility for the mix-up and work out a deal, but the homeowner wasn't interested, possibly because of financial strains.

Property managers have said they will provide the man with housing until other veteran affairs organizations are able to help him get back on his feet.
