Two days after a Salado middle school student was arrested for bringing a loaded handgun to school, we learn of a second-grader bringing a gun to school in Killeen.

KWTX reports that a 9-year-old was caught with a gun on Thursday morning at Maxdale Elementary.

Killeen ISD spokesman Terry Abbott told KWTX, “Killeen ISD Police were at the school when the student arrived and found the weapon in the student’s backpack and confiscated it."

Abbott said the student brought the gun to school on Wednesday as well. Fellow students made school staff aware of what happened, hence the police presence Thursday.

Police have not said what type of gun it was, or if it was loaded.

Maxdale Elementary parents were contacted after the discovery was made, and Abbott released a statement in which he wrote, “Maxdale Elementary is dedicated to ensuring student safety and is encouraging parents to urge students to immediately report any incident that might create a safety concern.”
