A Killeen police officer has been cleared of wrongdoing after shooting a suspect who reportedly attacked him with a gun Monday morning.

The officer was responding to a domestic disturbance call in the 1800 b lock of Cedarhill Drive shortly before 9:30 AM when the suspect, who had left the scene, returned with a gun and got into a confrontation with the officer.

The suspect was shot in the scuffle and transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple in stable condition.

The officer was placed on paid leave while an investigation of his action was conducted. KPD announced Friday that he would not face charges.

The shot suspect was identified as 33-year-old Thomas Eugene Meyers of Killeen. He was released from the hospital Wednesday and booked into the Bell County Jail on charges of assault causing bodily harm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a controlled substance.

His bonds totaled $130,000.
