Never one to shy away from controversy, Kanye West is making a bold fashion statement by wearing a Confederate flag jacket.

'Ye rocked the coat to shop at Barneys New York located in Beverly Hills this week, US Weekly reports. The piece was created specifically as merchandise to sell during his Yeezus tour. Several other items like T-shirts being sold on the tour, which is currently postponed, are also emblazoned with the Confederate flag.

The fashion-forward superstar paired the military green jacket with a Confederate flag patch on the sleeve with ripped jeans and Visvim shoes. Wearing the flag during a visit to Barneys is an especially definitive statement as the luxury store has come under fire for racial profiling. West even spoke out against the retailer in a recent rant about racism.

In an interview the 'Bound 2' rhymer had with Los Angeles' 97.1 AMP radio station, he explains why he chose to place the flag, which serves as a reminder of slavery and segregation, on the clothes he's selling. “React how you want. Any energy you got is good energy. You know the confederate flag represented slavery in a way -- that's my abstract take on what I know about it," he states. "So I made the song ‘New Slaves.’ So I took the Confederate flag and made it my flag. It's my flag now. Now what are you going to do?”
