Jidenna Performs “Long Live the Chief” on ‘The Daily Show’

Jidenna's Long Live the Chief LP looks like it may finally be released. The "Classic Man" rapper is certainly making moves like someone about to drop an album. Jidenna went on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah last night (Oct. 13) to perform the title track and lead single off Long Live the Chief. The Wisconsin native had to censor himself for the television audience, but the rhymes still hit home.

"You can either sink, swim or be the captain/Get the last word, I'ma get the last laugh in/Now they say Jidenna why you dressing so classic?//I don’t want my best dressed day in a casket/You can either lead, follow or get out the way/Make a damn move it would make my damn day," Jidenna raps.

There is no release date for Jidenna's album, but it has been billed as dropping in fall 2016. That means there is not much time left since it is already the middle of October. The rapper did give a few VIPs a preview of the LP during a listening party in August.

"It feels good to be done and have something that will not just change this world, not just this era but eras to come,” Jidenna said while discussing his album at the event. “I believe what Wondaland is doing is creating depth.”

It's time for Jidenna to capitalize on the buzz, especially after he got unique opportunity to perform on Netflix's hit series Luke Cage. The Epic Records artist popped up in the show's fifth episode, performing "Long Live the Chief" in a fictional Harlem nightclub.
