Janelle Monae Brings Android Love to Governors Ball 2014 [EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS]
R&B diva Janelle Monae brought the white heat to the Governors Ball Music Festival 2014 on Friday (June 6).
For those who've seen her perform before (like this writer), she kept to the script. From being wheeled in by a "doctor" and wearing a straightjacket to the first three songs -- 'Givin Em What They Love,' 'Dance Apocalyptic' and 'Sincerely, Jane,' it seemed a bit formulaic. But for concertgoers in attendance, they loved the onstage theatrics.
Perhaps the only thing that didn't go according to plan was Monae fumbling the mic while trying to put it back on the stand during 'Dance Apocaplyptic.' But being the pro that she is, the singer had a big smile on her face and added more choreography to her freestyle dance.
Monae had a great time onstage and it's written all over her face. The 28-year-old artist did all her big hits including 'Tight Rope,' 'Cold War' and 'Electric Lady.' She also did 'Q.U.E.E.N.,' which was a great performance, but sadly no Erykah Badu cameo. She also performed 'Primetime' -- sans Miguel -- but it was still a romantic rendition that made couples hold each other tighter and single people wishing they had someone to hug.
"This song is for lovers," Monae told the crowd before performing the song. "If you came with somebody you love, get closer. Get close. Grab a hand or something. If you need somebody, I'll be your lover."
And I'm sure no one would turn that opportunity down.
