One of R&B's all time great singers celebrates his 73rd birthday today! Edward "Eddie" Levert started singing at the age of 16. After a few group name changes, Eddie was a founding member of "The O'Jays" and in 1963 scored their first hit "Lonely Drifter".

While the O'Jays spent most of the 60's making minor hits, the 70's saw their breakthrough with classics like "Back Stabbers", "Love Train" and their signature song "For The Love Of Money"

While Eddie has had his fair share of success, he's also had his share of tragedy through the tragic deaths of 2 of his 3 sons Gerald and Sean, who found success on their own with their group "LeVert". Eddie continues to tour and perform to this day, including a current tour dedicated to Gerald's memory called "Baby Hold On To Me". Happy Birthday Eddie!
