Gospel Legend Edwin Hawkins Dead At 74

Grammy award winning gospel legend Edwin Hawkins passed away in his home in California on Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Hawkins is considered one of the fathers of modern contemporary gospel which combined secular sounds with a gospel message after his 1970 hit "Oh Happy Day" became an accidental pop hit in the early 1970's.

Hawkins won 4 Grammys through his long career and toured regularly with his siblings and other family members as "The Hawkins Family" and he was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
