Killeen Police Officer Robert Hornsby Will be Buried this Morning

Hundreds of law enforcement officers from across the state will attend the funeral for Killeen Police Officer Robert (Bobby) Hornsby this morning at 10 am at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center, burial will follow at  Killeen City Cemetery.  Due to the funeral services the following roadways will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today.

W.S. Young from Elms Road to Azalea Drive

Liberty Street to Atkinson Street

The outside eastbound lane on Rancier Ave from W.S. Young to 38th Street

W.S. Young from Elms Road to Little Nolan will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Killeen Police Department is asking everyone to drive safely and obey all traffic laws.

Hornsby who was 32, was shot and killed in the line of duty on July 14, while answering a disturbance call at Grandon Manor Apartments.   Officer Hornsby was a four year veteran of the department and was a member of the Tactical Response Unit (SWAT).  He leaves behind a wife and 2 children; a 4 year old daughter and a 1 year old son.

During the same incident, Officer Juan E. Obregon Jr., age 33, suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and is in stable condition.  Officer Obregon has been with the department for 10 years and is a member of the Tactical Response Unit (SWAT).

According to a KPD Press release, Killeen Police Officers responded to a 911 call at 11:40 pm on Saturday, July 13, 2013, when witnesses told them there was a man causing a disturbance in the pool area of the Grandon Manor Apartments located at 1611 Grandon Dr.  Upon the officer’s arrival at the complex they found a male inside his apartment holding a long rifle in a threatening manner. The Tactical Response Unit was deployed and as they attempted to speak with the armed male, he fired one shot.  The officers attempted to take the suspect into custody when he backed into his apartment and armed himself with the AK47 and began shooting at the officers.

The suspect killed during the shooting has been identified as 24-year-old Pfc. Dustin Billy Cole, a Fort Hood soldier from Talihina, Okla.
