Free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Saturday
I’m not exactly sure what kind of hazardous waste people are making in their homes, but the city of KIlleen assures us that if you are such a homeowner, this weekend you’ll be able to get rid of your hazardous-waste. I hope Walter White is reading this
Killeen residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste free of charge Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Copperas Cove Transfer Station, 2605 South FM 116 in Copperas Cove.
Acceptable materials include petroleum products, corrosives, fertilizers, cleaners, pesticides, paint, automotive liquids and fluorescent lamps. A complete list of acceptable and unacceptable chemicals is available at www.killeentexas.gov/hhw. Batteries and electronics will be accepted. Up to eight passenger car and light truck tires will be accepted with no charge.
Prohibited materials include ammunition, explosives, medical waste, radioactive material, compressed glass cylinders and commercial tires. These items will not be accepted, thank heavens.
The city wanted us to remind residents to carefully load hazardous waste into their vehicles securing any fragile or awkward containers. Waste should be in original containers with original labels if possible. Leaking containers should be placed in a spill-proof container or bag.
