Fort Hood to Lose Soldiers
An Army restructuring plan announced Tuesday will cause Fort Hood to lose about 3,000 soldiers.
The plan eliminates the 1st Cavalry Division's 4th Brigade Combat Team, and BCTs at nine other posts throughout the country, by 2017. Two BCTs in Germany will be eliminated in fiscal 2013.
Fort Hood will experience a seven percent reduction in troops through the inactivation of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, as well as several other formations. Fort Bliss will lose approximately 1,000 soldiers with the elimination of the 1st Armored Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team. The Army intends to reduce overall troops by 80,000.
Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno said that decisions are being made in line with the Fiscal Year 13 budget submission, with a $487 billion reduction in funding.
