With the trickling down of on-post housing, Killeen Daily Herald reported that Fort Hood Family Housing just announced that homes on post will be open to all renters - even those without military ties. Of course potential renters will still need to pass background checks for criminal records as well as be in compliance with Fort Hood regulations. Added security measures will also be a point of priority.

In a press release it states the Fort Hood Family Housing community provides;

... the comfort and peace-of-mind that comes with living in an all-inclusive community and can enjoy spacious two, three and four-bedroom homes.

The pet-friendly communities provide 24-hour emergency maintenance, hiking trails, basic utilities, community center amenities such as gyms, splash pad and more.

Lend Lease for Fort Hood, the company that runs post housing, said the reason why on-post housing has opened up to civilians is because of the dip in military living on the base. once occupancy falls below 96 percent, Fort Hood is allowed to rent to non-military citizens. Currently out of 5,552 total homes, Fort Hood only has 88 percent occupancy.

Even though families can be cleared to live in Fort Hood and have use to certain gyms and other amenities, thre are other establishments such as the commissary that are only available to military identification card holders.
