Fort Hood has torn down Building 42003. The building was part of the Soldier Readiness Processing Center, the site of the November 5, 2009 shooting.

Fort Hood officials plan to plant trees, install a gazebo and mark the shooting site with a remembrance plaque.

Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan, shot and killed 13 people and injured more than 30 others when he opened fire on soldiers at the center.  They were undergoing medical  processing  for deployment overseas.

Hasan's rampage was stopped when he was shot 4 times by Civilian Police Sergeant Mark Todd. Hasan is now a paraplegic.  On August 28, 2013, Hasan was convicted of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder.  Hasan is currently in Fort Leavenworth Prison awaiting execution.
