Over 300 fish have been found dead in a local pond.

Temple resident Eloy Machuca estimated that 90 percent of the catfish in the pond at Miller Park were dead. Some of the fish were already beginning to rot.

The cause of the deaths of the fish is unknown. Waco fish store owner Sue Goodwin hypothesized that the most likely cause was a lack of oxygen in the water.

A lack of oxygen could have been caused by heat, overcrowding, or the addition of a substance such as chlorine, soap, or oil to the pond. The abundance of algae in the pond may have also played a role.

The geese and turtles living in the pond do not seem to have been affected.
