Eight people were sent to Scott & White Hospital following a five-vehicle accident on I-35 near Salado Sunday evening.

Salado Fire Department responded to the accident, which occurred near mile marker 281.

One vehicle contained two children. One was pulled from the vehicle by a bystander and given CPR. The child was revived.

The second child was stuck inside the vehicle. Rescuers took 30 minutes to free her.

Both children were airlifted to Scott & White and are in critical condition.

Six others were transported to the hospital by ambulance and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic at the scene was stopped for approximately two hours.

Details about the cause of the accident were not immediately available.
