Eazy-E’s widow and his son are currently in a legal fight over Ruthless Records, the historic label founded by the late N.W.A leader and Jerry Heller. Tomica Woods-Wright, who has owned the legendary record label since Eazy’s death from AIDS in 1995, has filed a federal trademark infringement lawsuit against Eazy’s son Eric Darnell Wright, also known as Lil Eazy-E.

According to Page Six, Tomica alleges in her suit that Lil Eazy-E and his friend Arnold White are infringing upon Ruthless Records trademark with their website, ruthlessrecordsinc.com. She claims they are selling merchandise and promoting concerts through their website.

Tomica also claims White and Wright attempted to trademark “Ruthless Records Inc.” in 2016, but the application was rejected because it was too similar to Ruthless Records. The suit also alleges that the pair incorporated as NWA-LLC, and are also infringing on the N.W.A trademark.

Interestingly, Lil Eazy-E and White’s website reads: “Our old-school outlook mixed with cutting edge technology makes Ruthless Records Inc. a leader in the music business. Eazy-E’s first-born son and longtime friend are carrying on the legacy that started it all." The site also claims that Ruthless Records Inc. was “founded by legendary gangsta rap artist Eazy-E.”

Attorneys for Eric Darnell Wright had no comment on the matter.
