DMX is currently awaiting sentencing after he plead guilty to tax fraud to the tune of $1.7 million over the course of five years.

But the rap vet's lawyers have an interesting plan for his defense—play his music. Stereogum reports that his lawyer, Murray Richman, said the music will help the District Judge “understand him [DMX] genuinely in his voice."

His lawyer has already reportedly sent the judge DMX's lyrics to “Slippin'” and “The Convo,” to shed light on X's character.

“It is raw Earl,” the lawyer said. “We are not here or desirous of molding him into what some may want to see; Earl is uniquely him and that is both his beauty of mind and his genius.”

For his part, DMX has taken responsibility.

"I failed to file taxes," DMX told U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff in December. "I'm responsible, even placing other people in charge of it."

Prosecutors are seeking a five year sentence for DMX, urging the judge to "send the message to this defendant and others that star power does not entitle someone to a free pass."

Because, you know, in a country where the president has been suspected of criminal tax fraud, it's definitely DMX who needs to be taught a lesson about entitlement.

At any rate, DMX has been in prison since January after his bail was revoked, and faces sentencing on Thursday, March 29, in Manhattan.
