I absolutely LOVE this song. I remember the first time I heard it and remembered believing that the two people singing were deeply in love with each other.

Well, that is not the case at all, well, kinda sorta.

Debra Laws and Ronnie Laws laid the track 'Very Special' in 1981. Come to find out, they are siblings. Debra wanted to pursue a career in music, so her brothers and sisters decided to be her producers.

She was born in Houston and was seventh out of eight children. She began her singing career in 1977. 'Very Special' is one of those unforgettable tracks that people have sampled over the years. She has not even been getting paid for it.

In 2003, she had to sue Sony because J-Lo used the sample for her song 'All I Have.' That was the song LL Cool J appeared on with her. Well, long story short, they threw the case out because Debra actually needed to go after Warner Music Group.

They were able to come up with a settlement, but kept it a secret, so I can't even tell you how much she got.
