After her amazing Golden Globes speech, a lot of people are clamoring for media mogul Oprah Winfrey to run for President in 2020.

I'm a firm believer in having someone who understands the complexities of government policy, foreign affairs and an understanding of the electorate to be the leader of our country but since Donald Trump's election, our society has turned to what I call a "lazy" way of finding the next President by turning to "celebrities" including Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to be viable candidates for the presidency. What happened to electing people based on their experience in dealing with government, or those who spent their lifetimes and made careers out of helping people, not just who gives us an amazing speech on TV.

I will never say that Oprah isn't qualified to run for office, nor am I against her doing so and if it came down to it, I would vote for her because she has an understanding and mastery of a few of these things. I'm just concerned that we're starting down a trend that we won't be able to recover from: Choosing our leaders based on their level of celebrity as opposed to their level of intelligence.
