CTC Ranks in Top 100 For Two Year Degrees

An annual report by Community College Week magazine has named Central Texas College in the top 100 two-year degree and certificate producers in the nation for the 2011-12 academic year.

CTC was ranked 27th among all schools and universities and 16th among two-year schools.

CTC reportedly produced 2,929 associate degrees last year, representing a 7 percent increase from the previous year.

Bruce Vasbinder, spokesman for CTC, said that overall enrollment has been increasing over the past several years, and that greater emphasis has been placed on retention.

The report also indicated that an increasing number of degrees are granted to minority students. The school was named 12th overall for degrees earned by African-American students, 45th among two-year schools for degrees earned by Hispanic students, and 4th in Texas for degrees earned by minority students.

CTC hopes to expand its course offerings by adding an associate degree in kinesiology for the upcoming semester, and is considering adding shorter-term vocational programs as well.
