Coryell County Water Well Screening Monday

The Texas Well Owner Network will be sponsoring a water well screening on Monday at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Gatesville.
Coryell County residents are asked to turn in samples of water by 10 a.m. For $10 each, the samples will be screened for common contaminates such as fecal coliform bacteria, nitrates, and high salinity. A meeting will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Coryell County Commissioners’ Court to explain the screening results.
The Texas Well Owner Network encourages water well screening annually. Water contaminated with fecal coliform can contain pathogens which cause cramps and nausea. Water containing high levels of nitrates is unsafe for consumption, as it can disrupt blood’s ability to carry oxygen. Using water with high salinity can damage plants or soil and may leave deposits.
