Copperas Cove Woman Shot by Police Guilty of Assault
A local woman who was shot in a confrontation with police has been found guilty of aggravated assault.
23-year-old Amanda Jackel was convicted Thursday of aggravated assault on a public servant with a deadly weapon by a 52nd District Court jury in Gatesville.
Jackel was shot by Cove officer Christian Suess on January 19 after police responded to a report of a suicidal woman at a mobile home part at 1204 West Ave B. When Suess arrived at Jackel’s home, the woman threatened to shoot Suess if he didn’t shoot her first. Several minutes later, as Suess attempted to reason with Jackel, she exited the home with a knife and walked toward Suess. After Jackel ignored orders to drop the knife, Suess fired three times.
Jackel was arrested in February after being released from a local hospital. She’s been in the Coryell County Jail since her arrest in lieu of $200,000 bond.
